Environmental matters under close scrutiny

We seek to promote the wellbeing of the environment, both directly and indirectly, throughout the coffee chain. We can wield influence most strongly on environmental issues in our own operations, such as logistics, manufacturing and packagings.

In the countries of origin we can make a difference by communicating with our partners, by participating in projects supporting the use of environmentally friendly cultivation and refining methods, and by procuring raw materials produced in an environmentally friendly way.

Paulig’s roasteries in the Vuosaari district of Helsinki and in Tver, Russia, are modern and energy-efficient and they are located in a logistical nexus. We pay attention to energy use, we reduce the quantity of waste material, and we promote recycling.At the Vuosaari roastery, mixed waste and wastewater are no longer produced at all in the manufacturing process under normal conditions. We also aim for more recycling and higher material efficiency in packaging materials.

In the management of environmental affairs, our cornerstone is the international ISO 14001 environmental standard. We aim to raise the personnel’s awareness of ecological consumption so we can better figure environmental matters into our daily work. To promote environmentally friendliness in office work, we are engaged in the WWF’s Green Office activities.
