Young people and adults share their thoughts over coffee

Children and young people are the most important focus group of our societal projects. Since 1999 we have been an active supporter of the preventative youth work carried out in Walkers cafes. We donate the coffee for all the Walkers cafes in Finland, and we train their employees to make good coffee with our products.

From early on, the starting point for our collaboration has been the desire to offer a safe place for young people to meet their peers and caring adults. A support network is very important for young people. The central ideas of the Walkers activities – safety, being present and acceptance of all – appeal to us at Paulig, and are in accordance with our principles.

We feel that the conversations had over coffee are the most direct, natural and familiar situations, both between peers and between generations, and are situations which we hope are experienced daily at Walkers cafes.

We are donating EUR 1.5 million towards the construction of the New Children’s Hospital

The Paulig Group has been a part of Finnish everyday life for over one hundred years. The company has continued on this path by donating EUR 1.5 million towards the construction of the New Children’s Hospital.

When the Children’s Castle was inaugurated in 1948, Paulig was also involved in the process. “We are all part of the collaborative effort, which is not only focused on ourselves and our company, but also on modern society, complete with its multifaceted forms of action,” said Eduard Paulig, who was then CEO of Paulig, during the years following the war. At that time, the reconstruction of Finland was at its peak, and required the participation of all parts of society.

During the 1940s, the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare built the Children’s Castle and received a donation of coffee from America. Paulig participated in the project by packaging the coffee. The unroasted coffee was packaged in small, 250g Children’s Castle coffee packages, and a coffee raffle was organised at the Stockmann department store in 1945. The raffle was a success, as coffee was still rationed after the war and there was a great demand for it. Coffee was an ideal crowd-puller in various fundraisers. A remarkable sum of money was raised for the time: FIM 1.2 million.

“Children and young people are the most important focus group of the Paulig Group’s societal projects. This is why we want to be a part of this project. The desire to be a part of the New Children’s Hospital 2017 project comes from our personnel and our shareholders. The personnel remembered the Children’s Castle coffee of the 1940s, and wanted to be a part of another equally important project,” says CEO Jaana Tuominen.

We are involved in sports activities of local children and young people

We support sports activities of children and young people in the form of the local football club FC Viikingit, in Vuosaari, Helsinki. We support the team by donating funds and coffee and cups. An important part of the collaboration is encouraging the members of the club to take care of their local environment. Paulig, together with Viikingit and the City of Helsinki, organises a spring cleaning event, which is open to everyone, to tidy up the outdoor recreation areas in Vuosaari.
